What Is A Portfolio?
A portfolio is a compilation of information prepared by the adult learner which demonstrates and documents that he/she has acquired college level learning. The portfolio is reviewed and evaluated by the appropriate college level competency in that particular subject area.

What Is A Course Challenge?
If you believe you are familiar with the subject matter of a particular course, you may elect the challenge exam which is prepared by the college or university staff and is administered by an approved proctor. Each college or university has its own course challenge policy. A course challenge examination is based on the premise that adults have acquired learning for which they deserve college credit.

Are Credits Earned Using the DLUSA Study Method?
Yes. Most colleges and universities have accepted the concept of nontraditional external education (meaning any form of learning other than classroom environment). Most colleges accept some credits earned by college level proficiency programs.

Will My Previous College Credits Transfer To This Program?
If you attended an accredited college or university and received a grade of "C" or better, then most often credits will transfer to Excelsior College or a similar program.

Where Do I Take My Examinations And How Do I Find Out If I Passed?
Tests are proctored at colleges, universities, and testing centers through the United States. You will be advised of the school or test center nearest to your home. After you have taken the exam, the results will be mailed directly to you.

How Many Proficiency Exams Will I Be Required To Challenge To Meet The Excelsior College Standards For My Degree?
That depends on how many college credits you have now. If you are an LPN/LVN and you have none, you would need to challenge 13 exams to meet the requirements for an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. The associate's program requires 66 semester credit hours, and the BSN program requires 123 semester credit hours. The best part is that these exams are alternatives for attending classes. By using the DLUSA program at your own pace and on your own terms, you will challenge the standardized exams only when you feel comfortable with the knowledge you have for the subject.
